Base of Preference In Conjunction with Retraining
If placed into Status “6” and you desire to apply for a BOP in conjunction with retraining, please contact the Career Development Element at your servicing MPS. A BOP in conjunction with retraining is a separate application and must be updated into MilPDS. Updating your assignment preferences in your vMPF will NOT update the BOP request. Once placed into Status “6”, you will be given 5 duty days to apply for the BOP in conjunction with retraining.

** OCONUS BOP's are not allowed
Requests must be submitted before reenlistment. Requests submitted before reenlistment are processed even if the Airman reenlists before the BOP determination is made.
Tips
- Base of Preference applications on vMPF ARE NOT the same as BOP in conjunction with retraining. Your MPF will complete your application, input it directly into MiLPDS, which will be forwarded to the functional manager for your retraining career field.
- BOP selections are not a guarantee and will
be based on Air Force needs.
